The prominent crypto venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) Crypto has officially announced the opening of its first Asia-based office in Seoul, South Korea. This expansion is driven by the firm's goal to support its portfolio companies by tapping into Asia's highly active cryptocurrency user base.
A16z Crypto managing partner and COO, Anthony Albanese, emphasized that Asia holds a "particularly strong concentration" of onchain users and represents a significant portion of global crypto activity.
The new Seoul office will be led by SungMo Park, a former member of Polygon Labs. Park's role will focus on providing founders with the regional context and knowledge necessary to scale their operations.
Further emphasizing the region's bullish sentiment, a Sygnum survey revealed that six out of ten Asian high-net-worth individuals are prepared to increase their crypto allocations, driven by a strong long-term outlook. The survey also found that 87% of affluent Asian investors already hold crypto.
