The social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, is making a major move into cryptocurrency by allowing all 500 million of its users to send and receive Bitcoin directly on the platform. This new feature is made possible through a collaboration with BitBit, a self-custodial social wallet, and Spark, a fast and efficient Layer 2 solution from Lightspark.

This integration is designed to be user-friendly, allowing anyone to send tips to other users, even if the recipient doesn't have a Bitcoin wallet set up yet. If the funds aren't claimed within 21 days, they are automatically returned to the sender. This simplifies the process by removing the technical barriers often associated with crypto.

Simplified and Accessible

BitBit's goal is to make Bitcoin payments easy and accessible to everyone. By associating payments with X usernames, it offers a frictionless way to tip content creators and support communities. Spark, the underlying technology, is highlighted as a faster and more cost-effective alternative to other solutions, ensuring a smooth user experience with low transaction fees.

Lightspark CEO David Marcus emphasized that this partnership leverages Bitcoin's role as the only open and neutral network for value transfer. Similarly, BitBit founder Felipe Servin stressed the importance of bringing crypto to where users already are, rather than forcing them to adopt new technologies. The BitBit browser extension is already available, with plans for mobile support and stablecoin integration in the works.

This new partnership on X is seen as a pivotal step in the mainstream adoption of Bitcoin, making peer-to-peer payments simpler, more secure, and accessible to a global audience.
