Elon Musk has officially launched a new political movement, the “America Party,” with an explicit endorsement of Bitcoin and a mission to disrupt the entrenched two-party system in the United States.
Responding to an X user on Sunday, Musk confirmed that his new party supports Bitcoin. “Fiat is hopeless, so yes,” he wrote, signaling the America Party’s alignment with decentralized finance and criticism of traditional monetary systems.
Musk unveiled the America Party on Saturday, following a poll he posted on X gauging public interest in an alternative to the Republican and Democratic parties. “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” Musk declared. “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
The announcement comes on the heels of Musk’s growing rift with Donald Trump, a former ally, over the recently passed $3.4 trillion “Big, Beautiful Bill.” Musk fiercely criticized the spending package for inflating the national deficit, calling it a “disgusting abomination.”
Trump responded on Truth Social, saying Musk has gone “completely off the rails,” and dismissed the America Party as doomed, claiming, “A third political party has never succeeded in U.S. history.”
Rather than aiming for a sweeping national presence immediately, Musk outlined a strategic plan: “One way to execute on this would be to laser-focus on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts,” he posted. He argued that such a concentrated effort could make the America Party a swing vote in Congress.
The party already has a website online, although it has not yet filed with the Federal Election Commission. Details on its full platform and organizational roadmap remain sparse.
The America Party has drawn attention from high-profile figures, including billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban and SkyBridge Capital founder Anthony Scaramucci, both of whom have expressed early interest.
Musk’s vocal support for Bitcoin adds a financial dimension to the party’s ethos. Bitcoin rose 0.78% in the past 24 hours to $109,028, according to The Block — a modest gain that coincided with Musk’s public remarks.
As of now, the America Party remains in its formative stages. But with Musk’s influence, deep pockets, and a growing list of interested backers, it’s poised to shake up the political status quo.
