NBA star Kevin Durant has finally regained access to his Coinbase account, resolving a long-standing issue of lost login details. The account, which contains Bitcoin he bought in 2016, was successfully restored with the help of Coinbase's support team, as confirmed by CEO Brian Armstrong.

Durant and his agent, Rich Kleiman, initially purchased Bitcoin in 2016 after attending a party where they were inspired by conversations about the cryptocurrency. At the time, Bitcoin was trading at about $600. Its current price is approximately $117,000, representing a nearly 200-fold increase in value. Because Durant could not access his account for years, his holdings remained untouched, allowing them to benefit from one of the most significant bull runs in crypto history.

Kleiman joked at a conference that the lost login credentials ultimately benefited them, as it prevented them from selling their Bitcoin early.

Durant's connection to Coinbase goes beyond this personal investment. His venture firm, Thirty Five Ventures, invested in Coinbase in 2017, and he has been a brand partner for the exchange since 2021. Durant is one of a number of NBA players who have embraced digital assets, with others like Tristan Thompson and Spencer Dinwiddie also exploring projects in the crypto space.
