In a move aimed at rebuilding trust and enhancing institutional security, KuCoin has partnered with BitGo Singapore to launch a new off-exchange custody solution under its ambitious $2 billion “Trust Project.”
This strategic initiative is designed to strengthen institutional confidence in crypto trading by addressing long-standing concerns around asset custody, counterparty risk, and operational transparency.
Through this partnership, institutional clients will gain access to KuCoin’s full range of trading products—including spot, margin, options, and perpetuals—without the need to pre-fund their exchange wallets.
Instead, client assets will be held securely in custody by BitGo Singapore, a regulated entity under the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). BitGo’s custody services include insurance coverage of up to $250 million, offering an added layer of institutional-grade protection.
The integration utilizes BitGo’s Go Network, an increasingly popular infrastructure solution for secure digital asset settlement. The platform enables automated post-trade settlement and delegated trading access—allowing users to retain control of their funds while seamlessly executing trades through KuCoin.
This model minimizes counterparty risk and enhances resilience, key concerns for institutional players navigating the volatile and fragmented crypto landscape.
“This integration marks a major step toward efficient, compliant crypto trading,” said Brett Reeves, Head of Go Network at BitGo.
The partnership comes as KuCoin faces the challenge of restoring market trust following regulatory changes. The introduction of mandatory Know Your Customer (KYC) rules in June 2023 led to a dramatic 77% decline in KuCoin’s Bitcoin reserves, which dropped from 18,300 BTC to 4,100 BTC in just one month.
With the Trust Project, KuCoin is working to rebuild its institutional infrastructure and assure clients of its long-term commitment to security, transparency, and regulatory alignment.
As institutional demand for compliant crypto solutions grows, KuCoin’s collaboration with BitGo could signal a new model for exchange operations—one that emphasizes custody independence and secure settlement as core pillars of trust.
