Japanese firm Metaplanet, a company focused on holding Bitcoin as a treasury asset, has announced the purchase of an additional 103 BTC for approximately $11.7 million. This acquisition was made at an average price of $113,491 per bitcoin.
With this latest purchase, Metaplanet's total Bitcoin holdings now stand at 18,991 BTC. The company has spent a total of $1.95 billion to acquire its entire reserve at an average price of $102,712 per bitcoin.
Since launching its Bitcoin strategy in April 2024, Metaplanet has quickly become a major player, ranking seventh globally among publicly-held companies with Bitcoin reserves. In other news, Metaplanet was recently added to the FTSE Japan Index, where it was upgraded from a small-cap to a mid-cap stock.
Following the announcement, Metaplanet's stock price rose by about 3.5% on Monday. While its stock has dropped by 26.9% in the last month, it remains up by 147.9% for the year.
