The Japanese firm Metaplanet has significantly expanded its bitcoin treasury, acquiring an additional 518 BTC for approximately $61.4 million. This purchase was made at an average price of about $118,519 per bitcoin.
According to CEO Simon Gerovich, the company's total bitcoin holdings now stand at 18,113 BTC, which were acquired for a total of $1.85 billion at an average price of $101,911 per coin. This makes Metaplanet the sixth-largest corporate holder of bitcoin globally, trailing behind companies like MicroStrategy. The firm recently announced plans to raise up to $3.7 billion to support its continued bitcoin acquisition strategy.
As Metaplanet makes this move, the price of bitcoin has seen a slight dip, falling 2.4% in the last 24 hours to trade at around $118,883. Despite this, the cryptocurrency is still up 4% for the week. Following the announcement, Metaplanet's stock saw a 1.6% dip on Tuesday, though it remains up 183% year-to-date.
