SKALE has officially deployed a new Ethereum Layer 3 network, dubbed SKALE on Base, specifically designed to support AI-focused applications and agent workloads. This launch leverages the infrastructure of both SKALE and Base to offer enhanced scalability and functionality.

Key Features and Integration

  • Combination of Strengths: SKALE on Base merges SKALE's scalable infrastructure with the established liquidity, user base, and onramps of the Layer 2 Base network.
  • Targeting AI Agents: The network primarily targets AI agents utilizing the Coinbase-incubated x402 payment protocol. It enables these agents to operate across multiple EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) blockchains without needing to learn different gas models or user interfaces.
  • Gasless Transactions via Credit System: SKALE on Base eliminates the need for users to manage gas fees for onchain applications by introducing a credit system. Users can prepay for compute resources using USDC or SKL.
  • SKALE Expand: This launch marks the first deployment of SKALE Expand, a multi-chain system that allows core SKALE smart contracts to run on other EVM chains while maintaining SKALE's signature features: gasless transactions, instant finality, and privacy.

Importance of Layer 3

The Layer 3 deployment provides crucial functionality that cannot be efficiently supported by Layer 2 chains alone, all while retaining the security and liquidity of the underlying parent layers (Ethereum, Base). This initiative aims to connect multiple L1 and L2 chains, expanding SKALE's capabilities while keeping users and liquidity within their home networks.

Earlier this year, SKALE also launched the BITE Protocol to combat malicious Maximum Extractable Value (MEV) activities like front-running and sandwich attacks.
