Starknet, the Ethereum Layer 2 solution developed by StarkWare, experienced a service disruption on September 2, causing a temporary network halt. The outage occurred shortly after the rollout of its v0.14.0 upgrade, which was a significant step toward decentralization.
The upgrade was designed to enhance the network's performance by introducing a multi-sequencer infrastructure and Tendermint consensus, aimed at making Starknet faster, more scalable, and more resilient. However, the subsequent outage has prompted the StarkWare team to investigate the root cause and work on restoring full functionality.
While the incident temporarily disrupted transactions, no financial losses have been reported. The team had previously planned for a brief, 15-minute downtime for the upgrade, and they're currently determining if this initial planned downtime aligns with the actual outage. StarkWare's co-founder, Eli Ben-Sasson, had previously described the v0.14.0 upgrade as a "significant step toward our vision of a decentralized, high-performance Layer 2."
