According to a recent Gallup survey from July 2025, cryptocurrency ownership in the United States remains a niche activity, with only 14% of American adults reporting that they own digital assets. The survey highlights a persistent skepticism, as a majority of respondents view cryptocurrency as a very risky investment, and 60% have no interest in purchasing it.

The poll's findings show that crypto ownership is concentrated among specific demographics: young men aged 18-49, upper-income earners, and college graduates. Despite this limited adoption, most Americans have heard of cryptocurrencies, but a significant knowledge gap remains, with only 35% of respondents claiming to understand how they work.

When asked about the best long-term investment, only a small fraction—4% of Americans—chose cryptocurrency. This pales in comparison to traditional assets like stocks and real estate, which continue to be the preferred choices for the majority of investors. The survey underscores that despite growing awareness and a more friendly regulatory environment, the perception of high risk is a major barrier preventing widespread adoption across the general population.
