Despite its absence from a recently published crypto policy report, US President Donald Trump's administration remains committed to establishing a strategic Bitcoin (BTC) reserve. Robert "Bo" Hines, executive director of the US President’s Council of Advisers on Digital Assets, confirmed this in a recent interview.

"We Do Believe in Accumulation"

Hines stated, "We do believe in accumulation," referring to the strategic Bitcoin reserve, and affirmed, "We have it, it’s been established [...] we also have the strategic national digital assets stockpile." He emphasized that Bitcoin is in "a class of its own and everyone recognizes that." While acknowledging the importance of other crypto ecosystems, he didn't specify other digital assets.

Hines indicated that building the necessary infrastructure for accumulation takes time and effort to ensure long-term success, promising that people "will be very pleased with the direction that we are going, and we’ll start moving on that in short order."

Bitcoin Reserve Absent from White House Report

The President’s Working Group on Digital Asset Markets released recommendations focused on "strengthening American leadership in digital Financial Technology." However, the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve was conspicuously absent from this report. Hines clarified that the report's primary focus was on creating a clear and robust regulatory framework.

He reiterated the administration's strong support for Bitcoin: "We understand the importance of the strategic Bitcoin reserve, we’re enormous fans of Bitcoin and the Bitcoin community, we want to deliver for them as well, and I’m certain that we will."

Federal Government Aims for Maximum Bitcoin Holdings

When questioned about the exact amount of Bitcoin the federal government currently holds, Hines declined to disclose specifics, citing several reasons for the confidentiality. However, he emphatically stated, "we want as much as we can possibly get [...] and we’re going to continue to work on that."

According to Nansen, the US government is estimated to currently hold approximately 198,000 BTC, valued at around $2.35 billion. President Trump officially established the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and US Digital Asset Stockpile in March through an executive order.
