Kraken has introduced Krak, its new peer-to-peer payments app designed to expand beyond crypto trading into mainstream financial services. Launched on Thursday, Krak enables users to send and receive money instantly across more than 160 countries, supporting over 300 assets, including fiat currencies, stablecoins, and cryptocurrencies. Krak targets inefficiencies in the traditional global payments system by offering faster, cheaper, and more accessible transactions. The app provides near-zero-cost peer-to-peer transfers, positioning itself as a strong alternative to popular payment platforms like PayPal and Cash App. Unlike Kraken’s trading platform, Krak simplifies international payments by eliminating the need for bank accounts or complex wallet addresses. Its “Kraktags” system makes global money transfers more intuitive and user-friendly. In addition to payments, Krak offers competitive earning opportunities with yields of 4.1% APR on USDG stablecoin holdings and up to 10% on staked crypto — features that set it apart from Kraken’s core trading app. Kraken plans to expand Krak’s offerings with upcoming features such as physical and virtual cards and pay-in-advance services including collateralized loans. The app combines blockchain efficiency with mobile banking simplicity to reduce friction in global finance. As interest in stablecoins and blockchain-based payment solutions grows, Kraken’s move reflects a vision of a future where money is digital, global, and seamless to use.
