Thailand is rolling out a new initiative called TouristDigiPay, allowing foreign visitors to use cryptocurrencies for payments in Thai baht. The program, announced by the government, aims to revitalize the country's tourism sector, which has seen a slowdown.

The full details of the initiative will be revealed at a press conference by Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira and officials from key financial and tourism bodies, including the SEC, AMLO, and the Bank of Thailand (BOT).

To use the service, tourists must register with licensed digital asset providers and undergo a mandatory identity verification process. The BOT is also developing a "Tourist Wallet" for foreigners, which will facilitate QR code payments.

Strict security measures are being implemented to prevent financial crime. The program includes transaction limits of 500,000 baht per month for larger businesses and 50,000 baht for smaller ones. Cash withdrawals are prohibited, and tourists can only access their funds upon closing their accounts.
